Everyday Intuition

Intuition and Courage

Our Intuition uses a myriad of ways to get our attention and communicate with us. We might hear a much needed message in a song we hear on the radio, or on a billboard as we drive through traffic or as in the story I am about to tell you in my case on two separate occasions, from the mouths of two different friends, two days apart.

The first time I heard the story, I thought "Gee, that is a neat story. Sorta cool." and I left it at that. Two days later when a second friend (at the same restaurant coincidentally) mentioned the exact same story, I thought.... Okay, something is trying to get my attention here.... I had better listen to what is trying to be given to me. The story was still cool, but this time, I took it to heart and really listened to what I was being told. Here is the story....

When test pilot Chuck Yaeger broke the sound barrier on October 14, 1947, there had be three test pilots who had tried the same feat before him. All three of them failed. All three of them died. In the years following this historic feat, Yeager was required by Air Force intelligence to keep the achievement quiet... When he was finally given the green light to tell his story, this is what he said. (In a nutshell)

"When the three previous test pilots began to approach the high speeds nearing the sound barrier (approx 742 miles per hour) the aircraft they were traveling in began to violently shake and rattle. The pressure of the high speed applied massive force to the equipment and it seemed that the trauma inflicted on the aircraft would blow them apart. Each of the test pilot in these early experiments, when faced with the stressful action in the aircraft, pulled back on the throttle. Each of them, fearing a problem, released the pressure on their forward motion. All three of them exploded. All three missions failed.

When it was Yaeger's turn to sit in the cockpit, he recalled the misfortunes of the previous three and considered how his result might be different. The test flight began the same way for Yaeger as it had for the other pilots and as he approached the sound barrier, his aircraft too, began to violently shake and rattle, and it seemed as though it might break apart. In this moment of what seemed bleak failure - Yaegers' Intuition kicked in. When all seemed lost and logic would tell him to make a certain choice - Intuition was saying something different.

Instead of pulling BACK on the throttle as the other pilots had, which ultimately led them to their failures; Yaeger pushed the throttle to FULL. When it seemed like everything was going to blow apart, Chuck gave the thing all the gas he could. Sort of a 'no guts, no glory moment.' But it worked and in a circular cloud of white vapor he blasted through the sound barrier.

In this singular moment Yaeger blew through an invisible and some thought impossible barrier and broke open an established mindset that even science was unsure could be undone.

Cool story, isn't it? And SO POWERFUL! When we are on the verge of breaking through a barrier that we have long sought to overcome, whether it be based in our career, our relationships, our health or our finances, it may sometimes feel that everything is getting ready to completely blow apart. It often times feels like total and utter chaos has taken over and we often feel completely out of control. Fear steps in and tells us to pull back, this is too risky, this is too uncertain. So most of us take our pressure off the throttle, and retreat to the familiar and the known.

But if we can remain calm and present in the moments when it seems all is lost we can count on our Intuition to push us beyond what we have known and into a new dimension where all possibilities can exist.

It is a scientific fact, that as things begin to change from one form to another, the systems that support them, become unstable. The chaos is the sign that things are shifting. The feeling that things are about to blow apart, is accurate, but it is the pushing THROUGH that chaos, that brings us safely, and heroically to the other side.

What have you been trying to build or change or create in your life, that does not exist now? What barrier are you trying to push through? Realize that as you commit to creating a new reality in your life, that the old reality will have to break apart, for two realities cannot exist at the same time. Remember that if you pull back on the throttle, that things are more likely to fail. Committing when things seem most desperate and hopeless is the energy required to create your success.

So from now on, remember what Chuck says...."Rules are made for people, who aren't willing to make up their own."

Go for it. Always... and when it seems you can't go a moment more.... go FULL THROTTLE!!
