Intuition and The Present Moment
by Simone Wright
Do you know how much of your personal and Intuitive energy you give away, waste, and lose, every day?
You would be amazed and shocked that most of us are operating on less than 5% of what is actually possible for us from an energetic standpoint! We like to say it is the negative people around us, or it’s the economy, or the stress of our family or jobs…but the truth is…we are contributing to the energetic loss by not being conscious of where we are choosing to focus our attention in any given moment.
We spend the majority of our energetic time remembering the past or worrying about the future - very few people are ever truly present in THIS MOMENT.
The only place you will find access to your Intuition and inner guidance is in the present moment. The only place your ability to heal, solve problems, change outcomes and create new ideas exists, is in the present moment. So I'd like to ask you, how much of your time do you actually spend in 'the present moment?'
We worry about the future when we stress over paying bills or panic when we realize how much we have to do tomorrow. We get angry and depressed when we look to the past and wish our lives or our choices had somehow turned out differently, we feel inadequate, guilty and overloaded by a myriad of things. The truth of the fact is simple…the past is over…and the future hasn't happened yet…the only thing you have that is real, that is true, that holds any power is this moment.
Our tricky little ego likes to convince us that if we worry about something long enough, or that if we are angry about something long enough, or that if we feel bad about something long enough, that we can change it…and this is simply not the truth.
Our habitual 'thinking mind' knocks us out of the space required for Intuition to speak by continuously keeping us out of what is happening in the here and now.
Many of us have had those experiences in life, when time just stopped or seemed to move in slow motion... it may have been in a stressful situation like watching the circumstances unfold in a car accident, or an awesome experience like watching a child being born... or moments when shared time and conversation with an important person made all surrounding experiences, seem to be non-existent.
These abilities to alter time perception happen when every ounce of our attention is focused in present time. There is no thought, there is no consideration of past or future and because all attention is in the now moment - time slows down or ceases to exist all together.
This is the 'zone' that athletes speak of, the 'flow' that musicians slip into and the 'force' that the great minds of history have credited their greatest discoveries to. A space beyond thought - a space so precise that even thought is not quick enough to enter. This is the Zone of your Intuition - where you can be guided to take action, make decisions and find ideas all without the assistance of your past learning or your thinking mind.
Most of us though are VERY out of practice in 'present moment' activity. So here are a couple of Exercises to get you into Present time and open the doorway to Intuition.
EXERCISE #1
Either sitting down or standing up; take observation of the room you are in. Find a specific area of the room to focus on. It may be a bookshelf or an armoire, or a magazine rack or a coffee table, it may be a plant or a desk lamp .... notice the shape of the thing you have focused on. Is it tall or short? Is it round or square? What color is it? Run your hands over the surface of the item. Notice the temperature of it and the texture... is it hot or cool to the touch? Is it rough or smooth? Does the thing you are focusing on have a smell? If it is a bookshelf can you smell the pages of paper or the leather of the book bindings? Is there writing or design on the item? What does it look like? Examine it completely. Observe it thoroughly. If you could imagine that this item had a taste to it... what would it taste like? Would it be smoky or salty? Sweet or sour? Bitter or pungent? Continue to focus on the item and with your imagination, create a taste. Does the item have a sound? If so recall it in your mind... if not, make one up and imagine it sounding in your head. Have fun... be creative... don't be afraid to play and imagine. Be present with this item as though it were a long lost treasure that you only had a moment to experience and you and you alone are responsible for describing it to all humanity.
Once you have memorized all of the sensory attributes of the item... close your eyes and visualize in your minds eye all of the details and sensations you just observed while your eyes were open. Again, remember to stay light and playful.... and for anyone who says they can't visualize - (we have all imagined beautiful people in our minds eye... some were clothed... some... maybe not so much).... it is the same thing. We can all do it.
If you commit to this exercise you will find that your attention is focused completely in the present moment. It might feel a bit strange at first but eventually it can be a place you exist in more often than not.
EXERCISE #2
'Make an appointment' with yourself and nature. Go on a walk…take a hike…find some grass and some trees…even if it is a city park…or your back yard. This is an appointment for you to make the time to 'go out of your mind.' Literally.
Leave the cell phone, the Blackberry and the iPod at home…try if you can to do this by yourself. While you walk, bring the focus of all of your attention into the present moment; don’t use this time to think about things; we do enough of that already.
Focus on the sound of your breathing or the beat of your feet on the ground, listen to your breath moving in and out of your nose and mouth. Count the steps you take, listen to the crunch as your shoes hit the pavement. Recognize the green grass, the flowers, the color of the sky, the birds flying past, the barking of the neighborhood dogs, the wind blowing in your face. Be present with all of these energies. It might take some practice, but as you get better at bringing all of your energy into the present moment, you will begin to literally see things differently.
You will begin to notice that colors are more vibrant, sounds are richer and more intense and you may even notice the trees and flowers glowing with a vibrating energy. You will not recognize this energy if you are anywhere other than in the here and now, only when you are clear will you have access to this realm. This is where intuition resides, where supreme guidance exists, and where the key to creating a joyful life is ever present.
Don't panic or freak out if you cannot get to this place on your first, or even your 5th try…it might take a little practice, like building a new muscle. Congratulate yourself for trying, and acknowledge when you recognize your successes. Realize as well, that once you make this choice a habit…it will feel so good…you will never WANT to go back to the old way of being!!
Intuition lives in this moment - here and only here. If it is your desire to begin to live an Intuitive and truly Creative and inspired life.... This is where you have to hang out. If all you can manage is 30 seconds at a time before your mind wanders back into the past or the present, that is alright. Practice makes perfect.... eventually you will get the hang of it.
We have all heard the statement... 'There is no time like the present'....
If you want to live an Intuitive life... make your motto...
"There is no time. Only the present."
BETTER THAN BOTOX
Another benefit of keeping your focus in the 'present moment'...is, it slows down the aging process!!! WHAT you say…no creams no injecting poison into my face, no slicing with a scalpel?? All I need to do is stay present?!?
Yup!!
"How does this work?" you ask.
Alright, without going into aspects of quantum physics and time relativity…
If you are in this moment now - and focusing on the past - then you are creating TIME. Or, if you are in this moment now - and focusing on the future - you are creating TIME. When you create the illusion of time, you create the illusion of age, with age…comes…well, you know. When you do not create time in your psyche, you do not create the things that come with it.
So instead of booking an appointment with your plastic surgeon… might I recommend just focusing your energy as often as you can in the present moment and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised and you will save yourself a fortune!!!
